The pine forest floor is my favourite. Soft to sit on, dry for most of the year. Snow sits very little in it, just patches here and there or around the edge. It doesn’t burn well but makes up for that in natural year round shelter. Mushrooms, bushes and wildflower look amazing when growing up through it. Fungi are easy to spot. I’ve been very impressed with the mushroom communities this year. They have been plentiful, even in my front garden, and there have been some belters in the grass next to the house let alone the woods.
Hopefully now my timetable will allow me extra time in the woods on a Friday, regular time, protected even so I can indulge my needs and wants for this without having to use up other time. This is so precious, like the spice in Dune. The hours between Friday lunchtime and Sunday evening are short and tightly packed with normal and abnormal activities. Damnation one week, K out the next. Holidays, Halloween, parties, ninjas, swimming etc etc. Oh to not work, or to get paid for walking in the woods and then writing about it. £40,000 a year and twelve weeks holiday though, non-negotiable. Jiu-jitsu practice in the morning, or afternoon while kids at school. That’d be ok wouldn’t it? Best check the lottery results again and maybe I can spend more of my time lying on a pine forest floor.
