I remember harvest being a big deal at school. Every year there would be a big display in the hall at school, primary that is, I don’t recall it being a thing at high school, though it might’ve been and I just don’t remember. There was all sorts of food; Heinz tomato tins were particularly popular for some reason. They made a big display of it along with some hay wreaths and autumnal dried flowers and no doubt Bill Flett took a black and white picture with some smiling bairns in it for The Courier. The food then, I believe, went to the old folks home, which is what they were called then. I liked harvest time, there was a change in the season and I liked the colours. Still do. I’m a big fan of all the seasons, for all different reasons, and autumn, now rapidly approaching is up there as one of the best. Top four anyway. Bring it on.
