A book came through the letterbox yesterday. Sign of the times isn’t it that it came at 7:00pm on a Sunday, but it is entitled Drawing Landscapes, a thing I have been trying to pick up and practice of late. In particular trees. I have been enjoying drawing trees in my notebook to some and no success so I’m looking forward to practising properly and using a guide. Of course loads of these things exist on YouTube but a book feels more old school and more like original ‘work’ rather than just copying off the internet.
Why bother some may ask? In this day we can AI any image we want no problem, but where’s the fun in that? Where’s the skill and the art? I’m always on the side of the artist, except for my hypocritical use of Spotify, which I fucking hate myself for. As a resource it is excellent, as much as it is contributing to the death of humanity and only getting worse as it pays it artists less and less. The dichotomy of the modern world. My generation is the last great one, now it’s all a bunch of wide eyed screen addicts, fame seekers, easy way outers, lazy cunts, identity politics and people getting offended over words. Dear o dear. Anyway this book looks cool and once I hang the washing up ill have a proper look at it.
