Any man who has no children, has not himself felt a full range of emotions possible for a human being. The first thing it does is vanquish selfishness and a ‘me first’ mentality. No longer are you the centre of the world, your needs are not even secondary, they are third. Less so, if you have more children, for the child eats first, then the mother, then you. This is a good thing for a man; to feel humble, to feel love that goes beyond all romantic leanings of the word, to a much purer place, unencumbered by the things only romantic relationships can bring. These new emotions, from the first holding of your new-born child, continue throughout their lives as you feel a new sense of pride.
Pride, where did that one come from? The average adult male probably hasn’t felt pride in a long time and pride in your children is one of the best feelings to get. From performances to managing school, to learning new skills to actual awards, whatever it is, it is never felt by the childless. Also the feeling of utter uselessness when your child is sick, ill or an accident happens. You are at the mercy of whatever higher power you choose to believe in, or the current medical climate, which despite what the news says, is the best it’s ever been. Have children and experience life at its fullest.
