Magnanimity is not a word I know the meaning of off the top of my head and will have to look it up. Like many words, I think I know it until asked for its actual definition. I think I know… two seconds while I consult Chambers finest combined dictionary and thesaurus… generosity of spirit, not quite what I thought maybe but there you go. Selflessness. Is this what constitutes a philosopher, a sense of selflessness? Spirit definitely, surely that is indicative of anyone who is undertaking or engaging in any kind of strenuous task or work. Spirit sees us through both good and bad times. How many times do we hear of fighters having ‘heart’? Having spirit, it’s the same thing.
We are emotionally involved to the detriment of our own being sometimes. Look at the last few weeks of K’s work for a clear example. An absolute shit show of a procedure from the top down and it’s her drive, her spirit, magnanimity, that’s kept her going and the selflessness of wanting to do the best for other people’s children to the detriment of her own life. And mental health. That’s selfless. A woman of action, of purpose. And oh such a thankless task. Windy today, hat blowing off weather, though drying quickly after all the rain the last two days. Two days of being soaked, no wonder I’m sore. Last day though.
