My walks are rarely solitary. Quite often, very often, I have headphones on, though the art of listening to music has dissipated in me over the last few years as I listen to far more audiobooks and podcasts. Has the podcast killed the album? Maybe not just that, but it’s a factor for sure. Maybe it’s because I am nearly 46 and just not that into much new music. But then Downfall of Gaia and Amenra did surprise me at the weekend in how much I liked them so I’ll give them a listen on my way to work and not my book, or the same shit I normally listen to, mainly the Wizard and Wardruna, Maiden and Misfits etc.
When out walking I have been taking the headphones less, though at the moment its barely a walk, more of a ten minute toilet stop and play if it’s light enough and the fox, badger or cat isn’t about to make the dog go bonkers. ‘Remember that used to be you tune, now it’s ours.’ And at night time it’s even worse as there is still people setting off fireworks. He’s still not keen to go outside at night and I miss my evening stroll, even as short as it has been recently. Maybe he has the right idea though and is going into hibernation mode early!
