The more I read about birdwatching, the more appealing it is. That makes sense I suppose. I am particularly interested in the buzzards, owls, kestrels and sparrow hawks I must admit. The few occasions where I have seen one close up, such as when I first walked to that drovers cottage, got lost and surprised one sitting on a fence post that flew off right in front of me, or when we sat upon the Law watching one soar and hunt for about half an hour, both these experiences were great. Unforgettable even, and way cooler than seeing them from a car window passing on my way to work, which I suppose is cool in a way. We watched a sparrow hawk on top of Cockleroy once for ages.
These are interesting but I’d quite like to watch some swans in flight or the heron that lives round here through the binoculars. How excited were we when that bullfinch came into our garden? My problem with nature and bird watching is that I’ve nearly always got my best pal with me, and he scares off the wildlife when he gets out the car. Or maybe it’s me. Anyway I need to learn to sit still for long periods of time. Sit still, look, be quiet, observe. Sounds magic.
